There are many reasons why someone would consider having a lip aesthetic procedure. What is a lip lift?

A Lip Lift is a relatively quick and simple procedure that aims to raise the upper lip into a more aesthetically pleasing position. As we age, the upper lip tends to lengthen and sag, causing wrinkles and a tired appearance. Although fillers can be used, they can often worsen the issue by weighing down the lip due to a lack of elasticity. When this is the case, a lip lift can subtly lift the lip or enhance naturally thin lips. It can also benefit younger patients and can be done alone or with other procedures like a Facelift or Eyelid Lift.

Who is a good candidate for a lip lift?

If you think the space between your nose and lip is too long or your upper lip is thin, a lip lift might be a good option. Some people who had a negative experience with lip fillers may find a lip lift more beneficial.

What techniques are used?

There are several techniques that have been used over the years to perform a lip lift. Original descriptions involve removing skin just above the lip, where the pink portion meets your skin. This can be done across the central part of the lip (the “cupid’s bow”), or at the corners depending on which parts need to be lifted. More modern techniques place the incision just under your nose, allowing the resultant scar to be less visible. A small strip of skin is removed and the area is carefully closed with sutures. The “modified” upper lip lift is the most advanced technique to date and includes more release of the lip and more stable suspension to create a longer-lasting natural result.

What are the benefits of a lip lift?

A lip lift procedure has several benefits. As we age, the upper lip can stretch and lengthen, causing it to roll inward and appear thinner. It can also cover the upper teeth, making the mouth look older. By shortening the upper lip, these changes are reversed, giving the midface a lifted and rejuvenated look. The procedure also increases the "red show" of the lip, creating a fuller appearance, which is often desired by younger patients.

What is recovery like after lip lift?

After the procedure, expect some soreness and swelling in the upper lip, which can increase in the first few days. It's normal and not dangerous. Keep the incision clean and apply antibacterial ointment for about a week. Take it easy for a few days and gradually reintroduce activities. Avoid exercise for around two weeks. The initial healing period is about 2-3 weeks, with more noticeable results appearing in 2-3 months. The scar improves over several months to a year or more.

Post op care

• Brush your teeth carefully and ideally with a child sized tooth brush.
• When eating food, be careful to eat small bites and do not open your mouth wide.
• Avoid any extreme facial movements such as smiling or laughing.
• Moisterize your lips often.
• Follow your surgeons cleaning instructions.
• Sleep with your head elavated at a 45 degree angle.
• Use a cold compress to eleviate swelling. Do not apply İce directly to the area.
• Do not get the area wet and avoid swimming pools and saunas
• Avoid smoking and drinking alcohol.
• Avoid strenuous exercise and daily routines that require heavy lifting or physical assertion.
• Do not pick at the wound or apply make up to your lips.

What is lip fat injection

In this procedure, fat from the navel area or another area such as your waist or hips will be harvested using the traditional liposuction technique; the fat which is extracted will then be processed and purified before it is reinjected into the lips. This procedure makes your lips fuller, plumper and more aesthetically pleasing as well as enhane the symmetry and shape of both the upper and lower lips giving you a more youthful appearence. As the procedure uses your own fat cells there is no chance of your body rejecting the tissues that is common with synthetic dermal fillers.

Who is a good candidate for a lip fat transfer?

This type of lip augmentation is perfect for anyone who has naturally thin lips or has experienced a loss in lip volume due to old aging. It is also beneficial for those patients whose lips droop or sag due to smoking, gravity or other genetic factors.

Fat transfer vs synthetic fillers

• As fat transfer will require your body to heal in two separate areas recovery may take longer when compared to dermal fillers which have practically no downtime at all.
• Minor swelling should be expected with both treatments. However, that being said, as dermal fillers are made of a synthetic material, there may be a risk of an allergic reaction, whereas fat transfer comes with minimal risk as fat is taken from your own body.
• Results with a fat transfer become obvious once the initail swelling has subsided whereas with dermal fillers the results are almost immediately noticible.
• Fat transfer can produce results that can last up to 5 years whereas dermal fillers are temporary and should be done every few months or so.

Post op care.

• Avoid pressing down on lips or touching them.
• Avoid eating hot food and drinking beverages
• Avoid wearing makeup on or around the lips
• Avoid other facial treatments until completely healed.
• Avoid heavy lifting, bending over and sport.
• Avoid clothes that need to be pulled over your head.
• Avoid smoking and drinking for at least 3 weeks after the procedure.
• Reduce the amount of salt in your diet

Liposuction

As we age, lose weight or after we give birth, we may find certain pockets of fat are harder to remove than others through exercise and diet alone. Liposuction can help remove this fat by extracting it with a very strong vacuum. Outside of traditional liposuction, we also provide vaser liposuction which uses ultrasonic waves first to breakdown fat cells before extracting them. This often leads to less damage being done to the remaining tissue and thus enabling a quicker recovery time. Liposuction is a procedure which can be performed on all body parts.

Tummy tuck (Abdominoplasty)

Some of us are left with an excess of skin around our tummy area after losing a lot of weight or giving birth. As this skin cannot be lost through exercise or diet alone, a ‘tummy tuck’ can be used to surgically remove the excess skin to give your tummy a thinner more defined look. It is important to remember that a tummy tuck is not a weight loss procedure and may not be a suitable procedure for everyone.

Vaginoplasty

Vaginoplasty can take on many different forms surgically and the type of procedure you recieve really depends on your goals or medical needs and may include the reconstruction or recreation of the vaginia using a multitude of techniques. Vaginoplasty is often sought after by those who are seeking to address defects caused by birth or trauma in order to improve sexual function as well as by those who need vaginal reconstruction after undergoing radiation therapy for cancer and other conditions. Vaginoplasty is also used to help address congenital abnormailities which may have affected the development of the vagina.

Crowns (Dental)

Crowns, which are also sometimes called caps, are carefully fitted sleeves that sit over an existing tooth in order to protect it from further damage or to improve your smile. Often applied as part of a root canal treatment, they can also hold together teeth that are cracked and support bridges. Not only this, they can also be used to cover and improve the look of teeth that have become discolored.

Dental implants (Dental)

Unlike other tooth replacement procedures, implants actually help promote healthy bone growth as they are osteoconducive. Generally, it is a small surgical procedure, carried out under local anaesthetic, in which a titanium screw will be fitted into your jaw. Dental implants are usually used where patients have more than one missing tooth and using a bridge is no longer possible.
