Gynecomastia Procedures

Gynecomastia Surgery

The most common technique for gynecomastia surgery involves making incisions that encircle the dark area around the nipple (areola) and following the natural curve of the crease beneath the breasts. This allows the plastic surgeon to remove excess fat and glandular tissue. In some cases, liposuction is also used to further remove fat and glandular tissue. If the weight of the excess breast tissue has caused sagging and stretched the areola, the surgeon can also reposition and resize the areola during the same procedure.

Who is a good candidate for the procedure?

When it comes to surgical gynecomastia, the ideal candidates are men who have tried alternative medical treatments without success. They should be in good overall health, free from any life-threatening illnesses or conditions that could hinder the healing process. It's also important for candidates to be non-smokers and non-drug users. Having a positive mindset and specific goals for improving the physical symptoms of gynecomastia is crucial. Additionally, candidates should be physically fit and at a relatively normal weight, with realistic expectations for the outcome of the procedure. It's important that their breast development has stabilized and that they genuinely feel bothered by the size of their breasts.

Post op Care

• Make sure that you take all of the mediicine prescribed by your surgeon.
• A corset should be worn for the first month after the procedure but in some cases the surgeon may suggest that you can wear a sports bra after the first week.
• After this time period, you may discontinue wearing the corset and wear a bra that has no wire supports.
• It is normal to have bruising or for the wound to seep after the operation. It is nothing you should be concerned about. However, If the fluid seeping through is a yellowish brown colour and smells, please contact your patient coordinator immediately.
• Your first post-op shower: you may shower 10 days after the operation has taken place. Be sure to remove any bandages and avoid using shower gel whilst showering, instead use a natural soap. You should not shower for too long and the water ideally should be tepid (neither hot nor cold). As soon as you have finished taking a shower, you should dry the wound with a dry clean towel and then cover it with a guaze and padding before putting your bra back on..
• Your second post-op shower: You may take your second shower 2 days after the first. You should not pick at the stitches or attempt to remove them. İn time they will disintergrate by themselves.
• You can go for a light walk 1 week after the operation.
• Do not reach up with your arms, carry and pick up heavy loads or drive for the first 2 weeks post-op.
• You may commence light activities such as walking and dancing after the first 2 weeks post-op.
• Light sports can be commenced 4-6 weeks after the procedure.

Gynecomastia Liposuction

If our highly skilled surgeons determine that there is no need for surgical gynecomastia due to a lack of excess skin, they may advise treating the area with either vaser or traditional liposuction. Vaser liposuction utilizes the power of sonic waves to break down stubborn fat cells before they are extracted, potentially resulting in a shorter recovery time and minimal damage to the surrounding tissues. On the other hand, traditional liposuction can also be an effective option to remove excess fat from the breast area and enhance the size and shape of the chest. The main difference between the two techniques lies in the approach to fat cell breakdown. With vaser liposuction, the use of sonic waves helps to emulsify the fat, making it easier to remove, while traditional liposuction relies on mechanical suction to extract the fat. Ultimately, both methods aim to achieve a more desirable chest appearance and can be discussed further with our experienced surgeons to determine the best approach for each individual case.

Post-op Care

• The corset you have been provided with should be worn for at least a month.
• Make sure that your corset is on correctly and comfortable while you are wearing it. It should not crease up.
• Any corset worn should be washed every 3 days. You may remove the corset for 2-3 hours in order to wash it, but it should be worn again as soon as possible.
• It is normal to experience seeping from the wound. It is no cause for concern.
• You should not attempt to remove any stitches. They will dissolve by themselves in time.
• If there is no drainage put in place, you may take a shower 2 days after the procedure.
• If you have drainage in place you may only take a shower 24 hours after it has been removed.
• The operation area should be lightly patted dry with a clean towel after you have taken a shower.
• After a period of 2 weeks has passed you should conduct a lymphatic massage on the affected area. This will accelerate both the recovery time and improve the shape of the body.
• Swelling post-op may continue up to 6 months after the procedure and the results of the procedure may not become evident until that time.
• You may start walking at a brisk pace 3 weeks after the procedure has taken place. However, if you experience any pain the activity should be discontinued immediately.
• You can start doing heavier sports 6 weeks after the procedure has taken place.

Penile lengthening

This procedure increases the size of the non-erect length penis and less so the length of the erect penis. It involves dividing a ligament within the penis so that the length of the penis is increased. The average gain in length is around 4 cm, but of course, this varies from person to person.
